Sample backpacker budget - Ubud, Bali

I kept a record of my spending for one week in Ubud and thought it might be useful for other travellers who haven't yet been to Indonesia but are trying to work out a budget.

This is a detailed budget - so, sorry if it gets tedious...I really broken it town for the first few days, then lumped all my food costs in together...

My average per day for the week was AU$21 a day.

Total: 110,000

Day 7
Room 60

I don't do trips or drink alcohol...so these would have to be added to your budget if you wanted them.

Hope this list is of use to someone!!

i've read your blog and its very usefull because i'm planning to spend my holiday at ubud.
And for your information,an earthquake in october at padang generate landslide around maninjau since maninjau lake is surrounded around by hills. It was very sad since there are victims there. And the earthquake also broke down the beautifull landscape of maninjau.

Thanks for your comment ibeng, I'm hoping to go back to Maninjau next year - it's such a beautiful place. That earthquake looked terrible.

I hope you enjoy your holiday in Ubud - another gorgeous place - but a few more tourists than Maninjau :)

I'm from the UK and Last visited Bali and Kuta in the early 70's and now want to go back and spend 2 or 3 months hanging out and maybe do a little cooking. Found your blogs really informative and the Gilis sound amazing and more like Kuta was in the 70's. One question though how do you get a 3 month visa? Is it perhaps a social Visa?

Hi Chris,

thanks for your comments. I'd suggest going to the thorn tree indonesia forum for the latest in visa info. I think that you can just get a 2 month visa in advance, from your local indo embassy - then pay around 600,000 to extend it for a month while you are in Indo. That's what I did last year, but probably good to check on the forum for the latest info.
